LA JOYA, OTAVALO - ECUADOR, JANUARY 23, 2008

The Ecuadorian staff of Charity Anywhere went again to the city of Otavalo for two main reasons: serve the people of this town under the significant letter of Covenant signed by the “Charity Anywhere Foundation” and the “Municipal Government of Otavalo”; and also to start a feedback on how the medical and dental equipment donated by the “Charity Anywhere Foundation” was used at the “JOYA” Medical Center owned by the Municipal Government of Otavalo. Thus, a one day expedition was organized with a team made of various professionals of the Medical field. Dr. Washington Zambrano DDS was our Local Mission Director; the Charity Anywhere staff also had the remarkable visit of its International Sponsor and Director on Mr. Dave Peery.
The NGO of Charity Anywhere was compromised to provide of dental, medical and surgical instrumentation to the JOYA Medical Center for its normal functioning. At the other hand, the Municipal Government of Otavalo should finish in this year the building of this Medical Center to eventually turn it into a nice hospital for the city of Otavalo. Charity Anywhere Foundation has been keeping this inter-institutional compromise step by step with a high efficient percentage; and will keep providing donations in direct relationship of how the finishing of the “LA JOYA” Medical Center turns like. This owed to the fact that providing donations on instrumentation or infrastructure totally depends on how soon the finishing of this medical facility is going to be at. We sure hope though that the Municipal Government of Otavalo would start and finish as soon as possible this construction project.  That will totally benefit those who need medical care in that poor area of Ecuador.
Our Medical Coordinator was Dr. Alberto Vargas (Practitioner-Epidemiologist); Dr. Gloria Polo (Intern Medicine Practitioner); Dr Carlos Grau (Ophthalmologist); Mss. Rosa Suntasig and Giselle Hams (Ophthalmology Assistants); and as our Charity Anywhere Volunteers on Lindsey Wyatt and Shelly Lucas (Register Nurses). We also counted with the participation of Dr. Olga Farinango (General Practitioner-Natural Medicine) who was helped by RN. Carmen Lascano. The consult was done in the following way:   Intern Medicine: 40; Ophthalmology 39; and General Medicine 47. That gave us a total 126 patients; of whom 24 were given 12 pair of glasses.

It was distributed a total of 18 dental-hygiene kits to kids on the area. The inhabitants of Otavalo city are known for their hospitality; specially after receiving some sort of help such as free medical and dental care.  Considering that the Medical Center building project is not finished yet;. Charity Anywhere Foundation will do a feedback to assure that the Municipal Government of Otavalo will honor its part of the mutual covenant. Charity Anywhere will provide not only instruments, but some training to the local professionals to assure a fine usage of the great donated medical equipment.
Our organization hopes to accomplish all the projects established for this year with the city of Otavalo in benefit to those in absolute misery and poverty. Doing communitarian service shows our comprehension of how rough it gets on Ecuadorian families to go over social problems like poverty, mal nutrition or illnesses. The Charity Anywhere staff in Ecuador will keep working in benefit of those who truly need Humanitarian Aid.

CENIT, QUITO - ECUADOR, JANUARY 25, 2008

With our common desire to fulfil our already established commitment towards those in poverty; our staff started this dental project on Friday 25th of January, 2008 by 9:00 am until 15:00 pm. Students that attend to the elementary “Cenit” school; as well as very young children that work with their mothers on near by whole sale food markets were given dental care this time. Our team had the following volunteers: Dr. Isabel Zambrano DDS (Dental Paediatrician), Dr Ximena Tapia (General Dentist), Dr. Juan Pablo Del Valle (General Dentist) and two other dental students from the Quito Dental School to also help in our team. The Quito Dental School agreed to send dental students to Charity Anywhere local missions as part of the Covenant signed between Charity Anywhere and this Dental School. Charity Anywhere recently donated several dental chairs to the Quito Dental School; and consequently this institution really wanted to support us sending their last year students to be part of our dental clinic to the Cenit Center.  Mr Carlos Celin was once again our Equipment Technician, the volunteers RN Lindsay Wyatt and Shelly Lucas also joined us along to Mss Laura Sorenson- an aspirant to the Dental Hygiene Program who helped doing Cleanings. A total of 53 patients were seen that day on which 82 procedures were accomplished. These procedures included 23 Cleanings, 3 Exodontias, 35 Fillings and 21 Fluoride Treatments.

IBARRA - ECUADOR, JANUARY 26, 2008

Having the desire to collaborate with the social projects leaded by Quito Ecuador Mission of the LDS Church; and under the direction of Dr. Washington Zambrano DDS-Legal Representative of Charity Anywhere in Ecuador our local staff organized a medical and dental mission to the city of Ibarra. The city of Ibarra known too as the “White City” is united by roads of paving stones that can lead its visitors to beautiful colonial-time houses. Its downtown shows old houses all painted of white; and all of them are located by the “Moncayo” and “La Merced” squares. Either at the Catholic University, University of the North, the local “House of Culture”, or at the local Architect Association is possible to visit Art Expositions. There are museums where archeological, numismatic, mineral, philately, and palaeontology pieces to be observed. Ibarra’s outer neighbourhoods are basically made of either old or new lodging houses where nice facilities and infrastructure is welcoming visitors from both far and close. Ibarra is the province capital of Imbabura- This city was edified at the hillside of the Imbabura Volcano. Ibarra was settled by Cristobel de Troya back in the 28th of September, 1606. This city is located 115 km northeast from the Ecuadorian capital city of Quito; and 125 km south from the border of   Colombia. Its weather is moderated dry and its average temperature is 18° C.The altitude of Ibarra is 2192 meters; the latitude is 00° 21´North and the longitude is 078° 07´ west. Ibarra counts with a history that comes since the Inca time and even before when the Quitu and Cañary tribes ruled this area. Then it came the Spanish- Colonial time as an introduction to the Independence-days back in 1810. The scenic views and natural resources added it to all of the historical facts mentioned above make to Ibarra to a great tourist attraction. Ibarra is a multicultural and multiracial city where families can still go out for an ice cream.  This kind of ice is made on a large frying pan which goes on top of a big piece of ice. The ice cream ingredients are shaken on the pan and the ice underneath turns the ingredients into ice cream. These family traditions are normally seen and keep by the inhabitants of Ibarra; which gave our staff a very nice impression that still in some cities of Ecuador family values and customs are not changed for bad. The members of our Dental and Medical staff had to live the “Charity Anywhere” headquarters by 6 am. The Medical Coordinator was Dr. Alberto Vargas (Practitioner-Epidemiologist). Our team was also made of: Dr. Gloria Polo (Intern Medicine), Dr Olga Farinango (Practitioner- Natural Medicine), RN Carmen Lascano, RN Lindsay Wyatt, and RN Shelly Lucas. Our medical consult was done in the following way:

It was very pleasant to see the enthusiasm and help of all the “Charity Anywhere” staff in Ecuador; as well as the LDS Church collaborators who made up a really good team that reached success on this mission. The real success was to serve those in absolute need. With the satisfaction of had reached our own goals at serving the people from Ibarra; our staff got and volunteers got back to Quito during evening hours keeping in mind our motto: “giving Charity to Anyone Anywhere.”
