PLASTIC SURGERIES - QUITO, ECUADOR, JUNE 8, 2007

At the beginning of June, the Ecuadorian Team was able to travel to the city of Pillaro, where we did several Surgery procedures. Unfortunately, the total amount of successful procedures done there were not enough; compared to the amount of surgical needs Pillaro`s people still needed after our day of surgeries. Therefore, the Ecuadorian Team leaded by Dr, Washington Zambrano invited three individuals to come up to Quito to receive surgical assistance. Dr. Zambrano (DDS) offered his private practice as a place where the Pillaro citizens would be able to be helped by the CAF`s Surgical Coordinator Dr. Ramirez (Plastic Surgeon). We did 4 procedures with those three people from Pillaro the last Friday 8th of June, 2007. Our work started by 11:00 a.m. The procedures done were:

  1. DERMIC-OPENNING on a 6 year old girl who had a burning scare on her chest.
  2. EXTRACTION of 2 DISPLASIC NEVUS to a 17 year-old patient’s face. With the same individual we also did two EXTRACTIONS of BERNUZOIC TUMORS from its face.
  3. PARTIAL EXTRACTION of a GENETIC MELANOSITIC NEVUS from the Facial-Palpebral Region (Eye-region) of a 7 year old girl.

It should be mentioned that with solidarity spirit Dr. Ramirez kept his word to surgically assist these patients for no charge. He never does that when he volunteers for Charity Anywhere Foundation.
Since our organization is an ONG, the cases mentioned above are good example to understand what Charity Anywhere does to the benefit of Ecuadorians. Besides surgical procedures, our organization offers doctors on Traumathology, Cardiology, and Intern Medicine to check out patients as Medical Doctor-volunteers.
In future missions we will publish on our web site the “Kind of  Mission” we will do, letting our website visitors know what sort of medical campaign we will be about to do. We will also let our patients express themselves either before or after receiving our dental or medical assistance.
On this way, we hope some prospective donors will be able to find Ecuadorians on real need. A donation on any way is always a blessing for those who cannot afford medical or dental services on a nation under such as Ecuador.

PISULI - ECUADOR, JUNE 9, 2007

Having the convincement that serving others is a real responsability and a priviledge that we should share, some Charity Anywhere volunteers with enthusiasum  and under the direction of Dr. Washington Zambrano left to the poor neighborhood of Pisuli. This area is ubicated at the North western part of Quito. After traveling for about an hour we got to the L.D.S. Church building. We used their facilities to be able to assist the people from that area (community of “La Roldos”).
We started by 9 30 am. with Dr Alberto Vargas (Epidemilologist), Dr Gloria Polo ( Intern Medicine), Dr. Mauricio Polo and Dr Margarita Polo (General Medicine), Juan Zambrano and Marianela Ruiz at Pharmacy, the couple of full-time L.D.S. missionaries assigned to “La Roldos” area (Elder Nielson and Elder Meielnikowicz),  Sister Hansen and Welty on the thriage stage, and Sister Nickerson and Wallace attending at the nursing station. Sister Sanchinelli as our Coordinator. We also were helped by  Dr Oswaldo Veloz (CAF’s attorney of Law) and Eduardo Veloz (CAF’s accounter) as volunteers.
A total of 197 patients were seen. The amount of 122 (61,9%) were female patients, and 75 of them (38,1%) were male patients. The Age Distribution of our patients was on the following manner
Under one year of age                                      13                          6,6 %
1 up to 5                                                               31                        15,7%
6 up to 15                                                            57                        28,9%
16 up to 45                                                         54                        27,4%
46 up to 65                                                         27                        13,8 %
65 and older                                                      15                         7, 7%
TOTAL                                                             197                       100 %
Within the population younger than a year, the 69% of them had a consult because of high respiratory track deseases being the predominant diagnost IRC (Chronic Respiratory Infection). Since the rainy season still goes in Quito, plus the natural high altitude where this area is at directly affects its inhabitans.
A case of congenic malformations was found on a child. The rest visited the doctors because of parasites
On the 1 up to 5 year olds group it was found a similary situation when 38,7% of them visited the doctor because of respiratory problems. Although the majority of these cases were simply commun cold, a few others were IRC as well as Left Base Neumonia.
The 35,8% suffered of Polyparasitosis and with a 10,5% of the cases presented Diarrheia symthoms. Fortunately enough, neither one of those cases had Chronic Diarrheic symthoms that may deserve a clinical treatment on a hospital. A child from this group was diagnosted of Inter-Ventricular communication, which demands a medical feedback by a Cardiologist. Mal Nutrition of 2th and 3th degree were found on a 20% of the children that visited our medical doctors. A significant percentage of 18% of our young patients went to wee our doctors simply because of monthly checking, reporting themselves as healthy children.
The 47% of the patients out the Age Group from 6 up to 15 had Intestinal Poly Parasitosis, whereas the 33,3 % did because of high respiratory track deseases, particularly IRC and Bacterial Infections (like sore throat). Skin problems were found on a 17,5% on this Age Group, including Versicolor Pyritiasis. On percentage of 8,7%, bulb-vaginal problems were found too.

On the age group from 16 up to 45 Poly Parasitosis was  the main reason to get a medical consult with a 29,6 % diagnosted with this issue. A 16% had respiratory problems, gynecological problems like Bulb-Vaginitis and Menopausic syndrom. With a gret epidimiological meaning, Urinary Infections as well as High Blood Pressure appear within the inhabitants of “La Roldos”. Women had their consults mostly because of Familiar Planification with a 15,6%, which lets us see the importance to share an Animated Discussion regarding Planification our next time there. We are also considering for our next visit there the possibility to set up a one day clinic where not longer several women from this area will be able to have babies. Another problems like Neuralgic Inflamations or Low Back Aiches appeared with low percentages, comparatevily speaking next to the other communities where we have recently given our medical relief. High Blood Pressure was the main cause for people from 46 up to 65 to visit the Doctor with a 29,6% out of the total consults did with people of from that age. The following reason that comes  closely by with a 27,8% were Gastritic releated problems along with Dispeptic Deseases. Rumatic Arthiritis and Low Back problems appear with a similar percentage of 18,5% versus the Poly Parasitosis found on a 14,8% out the patients from this Age Group. Eldery People in Pisuli showed us the same physical limitations that others from their age did on ou previuos projects. They were Reumatic Problems, High Blood Pressure and Senyl Syndrom. Although 197 patients were seen , 182 prescriptions were given  with an average of 2 medicines for each patient. Some of the last fourteen patients there requested medical-exam orders or simply were healthy old individuals that got their medical cheking done.
At the Dental Department we counted with Dr. Isabel Zambrano, Dr Ximena Tapia, Lilian Subia, David Carvajal, Julio Zambrano, Carlos Celin as our technician. A total of 77 patients were seen of which 58 were fillings, 8 Pullings, 58 Cleannings, and 25 Flouride Treatments. A total of 39 Hygine Kits were given and 100 dental brushes. The Dental Age Group was done this way
1 up to 5                      11                  14,28%
6 up to 15                    32                  41,56%
16 up to 45                  24                  31,16%
46 up to 65                   7                    9,10%
Older than 65              3                    3,90 %
TOTAL                       77                   100%

The journey finished by 16H00. Once again, we were full of satisfaction thanks to service. This neighborhood was totally left out by authotities. But Charity Anywhere Foundation Ecuador was there to give a hand to those who really needs it.

CHILOGALLO - ECUADOR, JUNE 16, 2007

On every medical mission we do, we are able to find several cases of needed people on the spiritual as much as the temporary support. Our aim in Charity Anywhere Foundation is based upon religious respect towards anybody. But at this last service project on Chillogallo; a quite interesting fact happened. Few families were taught to “Be good and Do good” by some Missionaries. That was interesting; since Charity Anywhere Foundation’s motto is precisely is to “Be good and Do good”. Anyways, now back to the medical point of view; is sad to recognize we also found several cases of absolute abandon and negligence on parents who did not quite care for their children’s welfare. This terrible scene goes even beyond our field of action and capacities as volunteers of a Humanitarian Charity like CAF.
What Charity Anywhere Foundation strives to do is to support people with medical, dental or construction projects that will bring with them chances to poor-family cases- like the those at Chillogallo- to earn an education, create self-sustaining projects and seize the opportunity to make a difference in their own lives through serving their own communities. This is the aim of this report: to help people to promote solidarity starting on their own families, communities, societies, and anywhere all over the nations.

When four patients visit the doctor during our Chillogallo project, it was catching to see they did not arrive with their mother. Some neighbors were nice enough to let them to bring them to our medical and dental project. Daniela Pozo, a 12 year old girl was the oldest and in charged of Jocelyn (her younger sister); as well as her twin brothers Israel and Angel ( 2 year-olds). Their father had abandoned them after finding out he was a father of twin brothers. Neither of these children knew were her father is now at; but what they did was what their mother was doing. Their mother was working in a restaurant. Her salary there verily was enough to let her family survive. Therefore, these 4 young patients cannot have a descent life-style thanks to the little money their mother makes per month.

While Daniela goes to school, Jocelyn takes care of her little brothers. Certainly, Jocelyn needs to start to earn an education soon. Jocelyn had low body weight and height for her age, she had parasites and her teeth were on an awful hygienic condition. Jocelyn’s little brothers had the same medical and dental conditions; they looked hungry too since they can only access to a one meal daily based upon on leftovers from the restaurant where their mother works.         With an innocent smile natural and a toy; we let these four children go from our medical and dental consults. They also were given an average of 4 medicines; some clothing and vitamins too. The little time we were able to share with them and their innocent happiness left in our whole team of volunteers the great question: What else could we all do to help these four little ones? We came up with the idea of collecting clothes, toys, medicine and hopefully some scholarships for these beautiful children. Hopefully by giving the mother of these children the chance to get a better paid job; their life style and healthy conditions will definitely improve for their own wealth.  We also hope that anyone of you who read this report may be able to help us with some of those donated items we mentioned above on benefit to Jocelyn, her brothers, sister and Mother.
