QUITO - ECUADOR, OCTOBER 15 - 16, 2007

“Cenit” is a non governmental organization dedicates to social work of great relevance. It is in charged to educate and feed an average of 500 children and teenagers that live in absolute poverty. Some of these Cenit-teens are so nice that they actually help those chosen by the outer society as to be the “troublemakers”. Quito-society normally used to relegate those youngsters who could not pass their high school year because of their low grades. We also know how other Quito-teenagers were also mistreated because of their conflictive behaviour that could not be fixed on time by someone specialized on the matter. Fortunately enough; Quito still has some refuges for these misunderstood children. Cenit is the case though, because it offers a warming welcoming, education and food. This organization is administrated by the Sister Missionaries of the “Good Shepard”; and offers stimulating programs to children or youngsters to help them go over their limitations imposed by a not just society were they live. Cenit children are also benefited by the love and attention given by foreign volunteers assigned to precisely do so. Out team left from our headquarters. At next is a list of those who participated on this two-day project: Dr. Washington Zambrano DDS (as our Mission Director). Dr. Albert Vargas (Medical Practitioner specialized as Epidemiologist); Dr. Gloria Polo (Medical Practitioner specialized as an Internist). On the Dental Department our team was made of Dr. Maria Isabel Zambrano DDS specialized as Paediatric Dentist, Dr Ximena Tapia DDS, Dr. Juan del Valle DDS, and Miss. Patricia Alvear with Christian Alvarez (dental students). Engineer Julio Zambrano and Technician Carlos Celin helped on Sterilization and Equipment respectively. Our team started with a profound desire to make a positive difference at least within the lives of these Cenit kids who desperately needed us. The distribution of the consult was done this way:

Like any other mission on the past; the experiences we gained this time were for our good. Our earned valuable information regarding our patients and their leaving conditions thanks to the degree of trust they put on us. This project gave us a felling of full accomplishment as we served and learned from these children. It was catching to observe the persistent amount of kids with mal-nutrition where their height and weight were not accord to their age. Mal nutrition is not simply an illness; but a consequence of financial problems on families that wage just enough to survive. Living isolated doesn’t allow the satisfaction of financial responsibilities that may guarantee a descent life for their children. Intestinal Parasites is the main cause of morbidity. Early morning headaches were caused on these kids mainly because they hardly ever ate breakfast before to go to school. Although Cenit provides them of a daily launch; the great majority of these kids return back home knowing that there their family and parents are not going to be quite nice as they should. This thought normally makes them fell sad, and it is an every day challenge these kids go through. We are pretty positive the isolation conditions on which they live at their homes is the reason for their lack of personal hygiene, good manners, etc. Family isolation produces problems like hair louses. Consequently well fare institutions like the Cenit have to deal with boys or girls that are ill with this particular disease.  As far as parasites; our team gave up anti parasite medicines to most of the Cenit students. Our doctors and dentists also taught basic hygiene skills to make sure problems like parasites or louses will repeat as few as possible and eventually be eradicated. It should be  mention that our doctors explained clearly to all of the kids that the improvement of their hygiene and living conditions also depended upon what the rest of their family members can do to support them on their family-progress.

At the end of this mission we had the sensation and commitment that we ought to come back to the CENIT. Working with excluded people and handicaps is what can teach us humbleness and generosity. What makes the Charity Anywhere team different is that we are not committed to figure looking only for our selfish interests. Other charitable institutions just don’t comprehend this simply statement. Serving those in a low profile offers us a profound sensation of being useful to anytime anywhere.
